What Is DATC?

So If you’re here you may be asking yourself “what the f*ck is this?”.

It’s okay. I’ll try to explain.

DATC is a private gym which focuses on cross training and combat sports. It’s kind of like crossfit without the cult and injuries. we focus on taking the best of multiple disciplines to get the most out of our workouts and try to maximize gains.

Here are the basic principles I’ve learned which I feel encompass a more complete athletic program.

First: Moving weight in space

Lift heavy sh*t. Building muscle through hypertrophy is essential to building up and athletic body. By focusing on compound lifts to build muscle through 6 fundamental plains; horizontal push, horizontal pull, vertical push, vertical pull, leg push, & leg pull, we build up a solid foundation for the body to perform with maximum output. This foundation is key for every style of athlete from amateur fighters to professional football players. It is proven to get results.

Second: Moving the body in space

Pull up or shut up. Body weight exercise helps build stability and core strength to help drive overall strength. It’s also a fundamental function which humans have sort of forgotten. We as a species developed climbing trees and mountains. We are genetically designed to move our bodyweight in the same spaces we should move weight; horizontal push, horizontal pull, etc. At DATC we seek to move athletes further towards gymnastic & climbing exercises with reduced stability and increased control to help build support on top of the foundation we’ve created through hypertrophy training.

Third: Moving tools in space

What originally separated advanced man from cave man? Tools. Early evolved man was distinct from his primal ancestors because of his use of tools. When translated into a gym setting we find unconventional, RKC style, swinging weird sh*t around training. This is where DATC separates ourselves from most other gyms. we utilize kettlebells, mace/gada, heavy clubs, sand bags, and more to test the boundaries of our strength and endurance. This '“gladiatorial” style of training helps us focus on training joints, ligaments, fascia, and more to help bind together the structure we’re building in our athletes.

Fourth: Moving with another body in space

Learn to fight. Humans have been fighting hand to hand since before we started walking upright, yet some people live their entire lives without ever throwing a punch. Mastery of your body is meaningless if it cannot be used under stress. Fighting, particularly through mixed martial arts, allows us to give practical application to strength and build ballistic skills which help master the body and apply that master to power generation and strength output.

This is just a cursory overview of how we train and the basic mindset behind why we train this way. Nothing in your training should be meaningless. Everything should have purpose and at DATC we combine proven methods from multiple disciplines to try and make comprehensive athletes. Building a structure that can last for generations takes a lot of time and effort. You have to know what you’re doing and make plans for how to get there. Combining proven methods has proven to get results.

And thats what we do.

God Bless
